KFPI's FTTx helped increase Makati City
tax in 2008

(Article from Manila Bulletin, dated Thursday, May 1, 2008)
The city government of Makati collected P 4.171 billion in taxes from January to March this year, topping by about five percent last year's collection of P 3.958 billion during the same period.
In a report to Mayor Jejomar C. Binay, City Treasurer Nelia Barlis said that realty tax had the biggest contribution with P 2,003,585,839.02 collected, followed by business tax, which amounted to P 1,924,531,886.10.
She said the rest was from miscellaneous tax payments, P 204,542,051.89, and Economic Enterprise, P 38,427,853.87.
In a statement, Binay lauded the city's taxpayers from helping sustain the city's financial stability by dutifully paying their taxes.
"We greatfully recognize the contributions of our taxpayers to the rapid economic and social growth of Makati. Their honest and diligent payment of taxes continues to sustain our financial stability, which has been pivotal in enabling the city government to consistently deliver quality public service to the city's stakeholders," Binay Said
Data from the Treasurer's report show that compared to the same periond last year, realty tax collection in the first quarter increased by four percent, miscellaneous tax, four percent, and economic enterprise, 10 percent.
Since 1987, a year after Binay's appointment as officer-in-charge of Makati, the city's annual revenue has remained on an upward trend and the city has never incurred a budget deficit.
Binay said that the city government has pursued various innovations, particularly in the tax payment system, to demonstrate its appreciation of taxpayers' indispensable role in city-building.
One of them is the establishment of electronic tax payment centers. Through computers linked to the Treasury Department at City Hall, taxpayers need only to provide any relevant information about their property and the tax due is immediately computed. They will then be provided with an electronic receipt. The whole process only takes two to four minutes.
To date, the electronic payment is available in 12 baranggays
