MANILA, Philippines--Telecommunications engineering company KTK-Fujikura Phils. Inc. sees its sales hitting P150 million this year from P100 million in 2007, as it shifts focus from copper to fiber optic cable installations for next-generation networks.
Lee said demand would be driven by local government units seeking to improve e-governance as well as IT and industrial parks.
He said established telecom firms were also going into fiber optic but were doing so cautiously because they still had copper networks.
"For sure, fiber optic is the way to go for LGUs and technoparks especially those in flat land areas because it guarantees 100mbps connection. It is very reliable and easy to repair, with a multimedia platform that is not just for Internet but also for voice, audio and video streaming," Lee said.
"If they compare the total cost of owning a fiber optic network with using telephone and Internet on subscription, fiber optic results in major savings," he said.
KTK-Fujikura was incorporated on Nov, 18, 1996, as a partnership between Filipino and Japanese shareholders.
Besides copper and fiber optic technologies, the company has expertise in tower and cell site installation; outside plant engineering, installation and maintenance; and IT services and tech support.
